Fraser Coast.

The Fraser Coast is home to some of the most renowned places in Australia!

The most famous place in this spectacular part of the country is K’gari, formerly known as Fraser Island. At 1655 km2, it’s the largest sand island in the world. While that’s an impressive stat, that’s only a part of its appeal, as this spectacular place is iconically home to the largest remaining population of purebred dingoes and has many incredible landscapes and freshwater lakes to discover.

But to get to K’gari, one must first go through another beloved part of the country: Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay is the whale-watching capital of Australia! Every year, thousands of majestic humpback whales move north from the Antarctic Ocean along the eastern coast to warmer waters to breed and give birth before returning south, passing by the beautiful coastal town and offering incredible opportunities to see the curious marine giants.

Lastly, the inland city of Maryborough is where famous author P.L. Travers, who penned the beloved children’s book, Mary Poppins, lived as a youth. One of the many incredible things to do there is visit the Story Bank, where people of all ages can enjoy her whimsical sense of storytelling.

Just one of these places is worth visiting. But all three combined make it one of the nation’s must-visit regions!
