Western Downs Gallery

Way out in the Western Downs subregion of the Darling Downs, there isn’t a whole lot of scenery. Much of the land is modified to accommodate the horrific animal agriculture industry and yield crops such as cotton plants.

There’s not a whole lot left of the natural world out in these parts, and while there are some forests, you can’t walk through and enjoy them.

The exception is Bunya Mountains National Park and the neighbouring Russell Park, a stunning natural refuge for animals, where numerous walks among towering, unmistakable, nut-bearing bunya trees are a lovely reprieve from everyday life.

There’s also numerous idyllic lagoons and waterways peppered across the region that help make up for the lack of nature elsewhere that are beautiful places to chill out, swim or kayak the day away.

So while this region seems rather devoid of places to soak up the scenery, the ones that are there make visiting here a worthwhile one. Uncover some scenic areas of the Darling Downs sub-region and the towns that connect them in my Western Downs Gallery.
