Theme Parks.

The first place to look to get the adrenal glands fired up on the Gold Coast is none other than its theme parks. After all, it’s the theme park capital of the country.

What’s great about these attractions is they are family-friendly and have a wide range of rides suitable for all levels of daredevils.

From the younger ones testing out their thrill threshold to the established junkies getting their fix and everyone in between, theme parks are fantastic places where everyone in your group can not only find a ride to enjoy but enjoy it repeatedly throughout the day.

1. SeaWorld.

SeaWorld was the first of the Gold Coast’s three theme parks to open, and, as the name suggests, its rides and decor have an oceanic and aquatic motif. It’s also the most family-orientated.

But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing for those seeking thrills because it’s home to 4 rides that have the exhilaration experience cranked up to the max.

SeaWorld's Atlantis Precinct has some of the Gold Coast's best thrills for families.
SeaWorld has some great thrill rides.

Storm Coaster.

The Storm Coaster is a short but fun and exciting rollercoaster that starts with indoor thematics and concludes with a splash as the carriage crashes through a 20m dry-land wave.

Jet Rescue.

Neighbouring it is the Jet Rescue, a wickedly fast rollercoaster that cranks out 2.5Gs over 560m of track.

The Jet Rescue going around some quick turns.
The Jet Rescue is surprisingly intense!

Vortex.

Over in the gorgeously curated Atlantis Precinct are a couple more max-level thrill rides.

The Vortex barrel rolls riders around like a rag doll in a washing machine 15 metres up in the air at speeds of up to 30km/h.

SeaWorld's Vortex offers some fun upside down adrenaline rushes.
The Vortex is a fun tumble ride.

Leviathan.

And last but certainly not least is the Leviathan, Sea World’s newest and most enthralling experience and the latest addition to the robust list of Gold Coast adrenaline adventures.

This brand-new, unique wooden rollercoaster may not have any loops or upside-down twists throughout its 909m track, but ripping around the multitude of tight turns and sudden dips at speeds of up to 80km/h is surprisingly intense and sure to satiate even the most hardcore thrill-seeker.

Oh, but that’s not all. It features a couple of reverse-facing seats at the rear, so those daring enough to try and tackle the Leviathan backward can get an even more extreme experience, an opportunity no one with a high-thrill threshold will want to pass up on.

2. Dreamworld.

Next up is Dreamworld. This beloved theme park with a more Australiana concept is home to several incredible thrill rides, a couple of which are some of the Gold Coast’s most iconic.

Dreamworld Entrance.
Dreamworld is home to plenty of thrills.

Kennys Forest Flyer.

Starting with the mildest thrills is Kenny’s Forest Flyer in Kenny and Belinda’s Dreamland, a small 342m rollercoaster that launches to speeds of up to 40km/h and is a fun introduction for kids to experience adrenaline rushes.

Serpent Slayer.

While the Serpent Slayer is also in Kenny and Belinda’s Dreamland, the unique dual-concept ride is not just for kids and those with a low thrill tolerance.

The pulled rickshaw ride alternates between two levels: Soft Style and Hard Style. The carriages on Soft Style rotate around the central column and swing side to side 180 degrees while the mechanics of the Hard Style are essentially the same in that the carriages also revolve around the middle column.

But instead of swinging left to right, it does seemingly endless upside-down 360-degree spins around the outstretched arms of the ride and ramps up the speed to 11 and the g-forces to 3.5. What this creates is a surprisingly intense and dizzyingly exhilarating ride that most wouldn’t expect just by looking at it.

The Claw.

Moving on to Dreamworld’s other attractions, The Claw is a wildly fun, pendulum-style ride that propels the carousel into eight storeys into the skies to an almost vertical upside-down position before swinging back at speeds of up to 64km/h whilst rotating 360 degrees, giving thrill-seekers an epic view of the park.

Dreamworld's The Claw delivers some fantastic levels of exhilaration.
The Claw is an exciting ride that offers a fabulous perspective of the park.

Gold Coaster.

The Gold Coaster is a classic rollercoaster that rockets riders 85km/h along a 900m track and concludes with an exhilarating loop.

The Giant Drop.

Next up is Dreamworld’s most iconic ride, The Giant Drop. The concept is simple. What goes up must come down. But that doesn’t mean it’s for the faint of heart.

This ride, the most easily observable from the Pacific Highway, is one of the tallest drop towers in the world and easily the fastest, which is probably why it has the highest number of people backing out of riding it. It incites that much fear into people.

It does have fantastic views though, and capitalizes on that. It takes 90 seconds to reach the top so there’s plenty of time to appreciate the scenery, but for many, the slow rise only adds to the terror.

When you reach the top, it’s not an immediate drop either. It lingers and lingers, and then BOOM! You’re freefalling towards the Earth at speeds of over 135km/h.

It only takes a few seconds to plunge 119m to meet back down with solid ground, so if you want to experience what gravity and top-tier adrenaline feels like, the Giant Drop is an excellent way to go about it.

The loop of the Steel Taipan rollercoaster and the Giant Drop tower provides some of the best adrenaline rushes on the Gold Coast
The towering Giant Drop behind the Steel Taipan.

Steel Taipan.

Capping off Dreamworld’s long list of exhilarating rides is the Steel Taipan, the newest addition to the lineup with a couple of unique characteristics.

First off, it is the world’s first triple-launch rollercoaster. What does that mean? Instead of jet-setting the carriage off from an initial launch point that’ll propel it throughout the entire ride as is the norm, the Steel Taipan has three points of thrust projection that drive it seamlessly along the track creating one of the most usual rollercoaster experiences on the planet.

As if that wasn’t enough to set it apart from the rest, the ride goes one step further by featuring the globe’s first rotating seats known as the Tailwhip. Imagine racing along a 1.2km track at speeds of up to 108km/h, experiencing 3.8 G-forces and 4 inversions whilst spinning in circles the entire time.

It’s hardcore, wildly fun and something no thrill-seeker should miss out on.

The Steel Taipan is one of the newest Gold Coast's ride to deliver high-impact exhilarating.
The Steel Taipain is an adrenaline hunter’s dream.

3. Movie World.

Over on the other side of the Pacific Highway is Warners Bros. Movie World. As the name implies, this expansive amusement park is extensively and intricately themed to popular Warner Bros.-owned franchises such as the DC Universe, Looney Tunes and more.

It’s also home to a fantastic assortment of thrill rides including some of the most intense in the Southern Hemisphere.

Road Runner Rollercoaster.

For the little ones, the Road Runner Rollercoaster in the WB Fun Zone is a great ride to introduce the kiddos to some mild thrills.

Themed to the Looney Toones and Wile E. Coyotes’ neverending quest to hunt down the Road Runner, the Acme Rocket-shaped carriage speeds around the 335m track at speeds of up to 46km/h.

Doomsday Destroyer.

Who says superheroes should get all the love? After all, a hero is only as good as the villain. And the DC Universe is full of dynamic supervillains to rival the do-goody superheroes, so it’s only reasonable they get a space that honours them. And at Movie World, they do.

The DC Supervillains Unleashed Precinct is full of incredibly detailed, artistic scenes showcasing the supervillains in all their evil glory.

Doomsday, one of Superman’s most powerful enemies, even gets his own ride, with the aptly named Doomsday Destroyer. The suspended twin hammer ride rotates participants 360 degrees on a vertical axis 21m into the air at speeds of up to 36km/h, producing a great mid-level thrill.

Scooby Doo Spooky-Coaster.

Perhaps Movie World’s most beloved ride is the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster, based on the loveable talking dog and his four human friends.

This magnificent indoor wild-mouse rollercoaster takes riders on an exhilarating 45km/h chase through a haunted house and features ultra-tight turns and sudden plunge drops along its 530m track, some of which is even in reverse.

Adding to the experience are the outstanding lighting thematics that heighten the thrill level as the ride is mostly in the dark and briefly lit by flashing lights, creating an exhilarating unpredictability of which direction the carriage will swing next. So while it comes across as a children’s ride, it has a surprising intensity that makes it one of the Gold Coast’s best thrill-seeking experiences.

*Currently getting an extensive makeover. Planned to reopen in 2025.

The Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster is one of the city's best family thrill rides.
The Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster is one of Movie World’s most beloved rides.

Batwing Spaceshot.

Batman is famous for his superhuman springboard jumps. You might say they are akin to taking off like a bat out of hell. And in Movie World’s Superheroes Precinct, you can experience what it’s like to power leap vertically into the sky like the Dark Knight with the Batwing Spaceshot.

Get propelled 60m into the atmosphere at a ferocious 72km/h before enjoying a picturesque view and a few bungee-esque bounces before heading back down to earth.

The ride may be short but it makes up for it in thrills.

The Batwing Spaceshot
The Batwing is a fun vertical launch ride.

Green Lantern Coaster.

Over at the front of the theme park is the small but exhilarating Green Lantern Coaster. Although it doesn’t take up as much real estate as the behemoths surrounding it (the next two on the list) and isn’t as long, that doesn’t mean the 66km/h ride is not high impact. The compact, 488m long track is full of tight twists and turns that are akin to the superhero dodging projectiles as he flies through the air.

While that’s great fun, it’s not the most notable thing about it. It’s the section of the track that follows the initial incline that makes it unique as it’s the steepest inverted drop in the southern hemisphere!

The Green Lantern sits next to the DC Rivals Hypercoaster and has one of the most exhilarating sections of track on the Gold Coast.
The inverted decline of the Green Lantern next to the DC Rivals Hypercoaster.

Superman Escape.

Next up is Movie World’s most famous ride, the Superman Escape.

The ride’s premise is that the rollercoaster carriage is a subway train caught amidst a collapsing tunnel and Superman comes to save the day with his signature, ultra-fast flying ability.

Excelling from 0-100kms in two seconds, the accelerated rollercoaster rises sharply to a height of 40m before heading back down the slope just as steeply and entering all sorts of bends and twists along its 760m track as if Superman is dodging falling debris. It’s an insanely fun ride and does a great job hitting the mark when it comes to satiating high-intensity thrill-seekers.

The arch of the iconic Superman Escape ride
Superman Escape is one of MovieWorld’s signature rides.

DC Rivals Hypercoaster.

Finishing off Movie World’s robust list of high-impact adrenaline rides is also the park’s newest addition. The DC Rivals Hypercoaster is a landmark attraction that pays homage to the DC Universe’s most prolific superhero and supervillain rivalries by pitting them against each other in an all-out battle royale.

With a high-stakes premise like that, there’s a lot to hype to live up to, but the ride does so with exceeding ease. The 1.4km long, 61.6m high ride reaches speeds of 115km/h making it the longest, tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the southern hemisphere! As if that wasn’t enough, it’s jammed-packed full of steep drops and tight corkscrew twists, including one at the top of the 40m loop!

And there’s even reverse seating, giving hard-core adrenaline junkies the opportunity to ride the park’s most extreme, recording-breaking ride backwards, delivering a Gold Coast adrenaline rush like no other. No wonder it’s consistently ranked as one of the best rollercoasters in the world.

The DC Rivals Hypercoaster has the Joker atop of it, but this ride is no joke. It is the one of the most exhilarating Gold Coast adrenaline adventures.
The DC Rivals Hypercoaster provides max-level thrills from start to finish.

Water Parks.

One of the things the Gold Coast is also known for is having idyllic weather year-round. The winters are mild, and the summers are hot. A little too hot sometimes.

But that just means it’s the perfect destination for swimming. And with two epic water parks sitting alongside two of the city’s most famous theme parks, they are fantastic places to cool off from the scorching summer heat.

The Fully 6 at White Water World.
Water Parks are the perfect places to go to experience thrills on hot days.

4. White Water World.

White Water World is the most recent addition to the Gold Coast’s waterpark scene. It’s co-located right next to Dreamworld and is full of water-based fun. There are plenty of slides and play spaces for people of all ages.

But those seeking to find some classic adrenaline experiences for when those humidly hot days come around are in luck because this place has a few fantastic ones just for them.

Dreamworld's Cyclone passing through Whitewater World.
White Water World is adjacent to Dreamworld and full of exciting slides.

Fully 6.

Fully 6 is the most recent addition to the White Water World family. As the name suggests, it is home to 6 slides, but they each provide different levels of thrill and experience.

Some are classically open-aired, others partially so. Another is fully enclosed and features trippy lighting effects, and a couple are just straight-up steep ones for max speed and max thrill.

The Fully 6 each have different experiences.
Each Fully 6 ride has six different experiences.

The Rip.

Ever wondered what it is like getting caught in a rip?

Well, it’s probably something no one would ever want to happen to them in real life, but luckily, at White Water World, folks can enjoy the version of it where they’re not likely to drown.

Get pulled into a 12-metre-long tunnel of darkness before re-emerging back out into the daylight in a swirling vortex. After a few rotations, plunge through the centre of the whirlpool and get dumped out the other side.

All the thrills of being in a rip without the fear of a watery death. Win-Win.

The Rip allows you to imagine what its like getting caught in a drip without risking death/
See what it’s like getting caught up in a rip with the aptly named, The Rip slide.

The BRO.

Want to race your family, friends or significant other to see who is superior? The BRO takes the classic racing slide concept and adds an elegant twist.

Unlike many other water rides of this type where all sliders and spectators can see the entire race from start to finish, the BRO has a fully enclosed tunnel at the start. That way no one knows what position they are in until they pop out the other side, followed by a traditional race to the finish line, which elevates the level of suspense for everyone.

Not only that, but the tunnel is dark and features a loop, so riders have the sensory thrill of experiencing that before being spat back out into the daylight and into competition mode to try and beat their loved ones, cough, rivals for bragging rights.

The BRO adds an extra layer of thrill by allowing you to complete against your friends to see who is the champion!
The BRO has a great twist on the classic racing slide. Literally.

The Wedgie.

The Wedgie. The name says it all. This slide will likely leave your swimwear jammed up your butt, but you can’t say they didn’t warn you. This ride starts out intense and stays that way until the end.

The near-vertical slide has daredevils standing on a trap door. Upon release, they plummet through a see-through tunnel and barrel roll through Australia’s only human half-coil before sliding into the splashdown area at breakneck speed.

It’s a fabulous heart-pumping ride that will leave you on an adrenaline high and unpicking a fresh wedgie out of your back end.

The Wedgie next to the Green Room is sure to leave you on an adrenaline high
The Wedgie capiltalises on speed.

The Green Room.

Ah, the much sought-after green room. For those who don’t know, it is surfing lingo for the revered tunnel or barrel created inside a wave before it crashes in on itself. To ride inside one is a surfer’s dream. And to be skilled enough to make it through to the end without falling off is even better.

The Green Room at White Water World is a homage to that spectacular fleeting formation. Take an exhilarating slide down the huge 75m tunnel into a massive 15m funnel, where you’ll zig-zag a few times before plunging into the splashdown area.

It’s wildly fun, and one of the water park’s best heart-pounding rides. Better yet, the Green Room has a conveyor belt, so unlike most other tube slides, you needn’t carry anything to the top yourself!

The Green Room
The Green Room is loads of fun.

Hydrocoaster.

When ranking the best adrenaline-pumping slides on the Gold Coast, it’s hard to go past the Hydrocoaster. Fusing the thrills of a rollercoaster with the joys of a waterslide is a uniquely exhilarating ride that tops the competition.

What you get is a layered experience rarely found in water parks. There are classic sliding components, but it is not all downhill. It features several upwards sections propelled by launch pads allowing the tube to accelerate up the slopes before a curtain of water showers you as you head into the enclosed downward stretches. Then it concludes with a splashdown.

It’s an outstanding, technologically advanced ride no adventurous slider should miss.

5. Wet ‘n’ Wild.

Wet ‘n’ Wild is the Gold Coast’s premiere waterpark and also its oldest and largest. The beloved place opened in 1984 and has been a family favourite ever since.

And for those looking for max-level thrills, there are a bunch of slides that are sure to deliver a satisfying experience for even the most hard-to-please.

Super 8 Aqua Racer.

The Super 8 Aqua Racer is one of Wet ‘n’ Wild’s oldest rides and still one of its most popular, because while it doesn’t have the element of surprise with the tunnel that The Bro at White Water World has, who doesn’t love challenging their loved ones in a head-to-head race?

Compete against up to 7 people on this classic and exhilarating 15m high slide and see who is the ultimate racing champion.

And with timing technology accurate to within 1/1000th of a second, a winner will be determined even with the slimmest of margins because we all know someone who will claim they won when they didn’t. HA!

Super 8 Aqua Racer & Aqualoop are thrill slides where you can also race your friends.
The Super 8 Aqua Racer in the background is great for racing friends.

Aqualoop.

Strap a board to your back and head on up to the Aqualoop. This high-adrenaline slide involves standing inside a pod, not unlike Fry’s cryogenic tube in Futurama, and once in there, there’s no backing out.

At least, not the way you entered. The only way out is through. Through the trap door, that is. And then, when that opens, it’s all gravity before inertia propels you through the massive loop and to the other end.

It’s an intense ride and not for the faint of heart. But a word of the wise, cover your nose and mouth from the start because the way the water splashes up on your face is not the most pleasant experience.

Aqualoop is a fun thrill slide
The Aqualoop is pretty intense.

Tornado.

Over on the other side of the park is the Tornado.

Passengers are loaded up into a cloverleaf tube suitable for 2-4 people and sent down a giant 40m tunnel into the eye of the “tornado”. Reaching speeds of up to 40 km, this ride is loads of fun and is sure to satisfy the thrill seeker inside!

Wet 'n' Wild's Tornado.
Slide your way into the Tornado.

Kamikaze.

Next to the Tornado is the Kamikaze, a quick, but high-octane slide.

Riders sit in a purpose-built two-person tube and plunge 11 storeys down a very steep 70-degree embankment reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h launching them up the other side of the u-shaped slide. It’s one of Wet ‘n’ Wild’s most unique attractions and also one of its steepest, so it incites the fear factor a little more than the other slides.

Kamikaze is Wet 'n' Wild's shortest ride, but its steepness makes it one of the most exhilarating.
The concept is simple but its tonnes of fun.

Kaboom!

The last on Wet ‘n’ Wild’s prolific list of adrenaline-pumping slides is the Kaboom! The Kaboom is similar to White Water World’s Hydrocoaster in that it’s an exhilarating rollercoaster/water slide hybrid.

What makes this ride different is that it doesn’t start slowly and build up momentum, it thrusts you right into the action right out of the gate with a 10m slide down a steep slope where you’ll experience a few seconds of weightlessness before it launches you straight back up an equally steep incline. From there, it’s endless excitement, twists, turns, dips and more, for a thrilling adventure from start to finish.

It’s not just one of Wet ‘n’ Wild’s best experiences, but one of the best Gold Coast adrenaline adventures at a theme park. Period.

The Kaboom! is Wet 'n' Wild's best thrill-seeking ride.
The Kaboom is a rollercoaster/waterslide hybrid and very enjoyable to ride.

Mild Gold Coast Thrills.

6. Hydrofoil Fliteboarding Lessons.

If you’ve tried your hand at surfing and enjoyed it, but are looking to level up to something that’s a little more exhilaratingly unique, chances are you’ll love fliteboarding.

Hydrofoil fliteboarding is similar to surfing, except instead of riding on the surface of the waves, you ride above them thanks to a specially designed wing on the underside of the board powered by a remote control.

It’s a nifty device that literally elevates the experience, so it’s more like you’re surfing the sky than you are riding the water. And although it has a bit of a learning curve, and there’s sure to be plenty of stacks, it’s all in the name of epic fun. And hey, everyone’s got to start somewhere and the Gold Coast is an excellent place to learn how to do it.

7. Tandem Parasailing.

Those looking for a Gold Coast experience that’ll take them even higher in the skies will love parasailing over the Gold Coast Seaway. Typically available as a tandem ride, this joyful experience starts out with a boat trip to an open area of the river. Then it’s time to get strapped into the harness of the parachute attached to the back of the vessel and BOOM! You’re off!

Before you know it, you’re soaring high up in the air, enjoying the beautiful sea breeze and stunning views of the landscape. Don’t forget to look out for marine animals, such as dolphins, turtles and jellyfish, swimming in the seaway before they reel you back to the boat. The driver might bring you lower so your toes touch the water and you can get a closer look at the sea creatures.

It’s a wonderfully unique way to experience the Gold Coast, and the gentle thrills are perfect for anyone who wants an adrenaline rush but doesn’t want anything too intense.

Parasailing provides a mild thrill

8. Skypoint SkyClimb.

Want to get the best views of the Gold Coast and take it to the next level? Well, at Skypoint, you can!

Skypoint is an observation deck atop Q1, Australia’s tallest building, and is one of the Gold Coast’s biggest attractions, thanks to the magnificent panoramic views it has showcasing the extent of the spectacular coastal city. It’s a fantastic way to appreciate the breathtaking landscape and is something no one should miss. It’s beautiful during the day and night.

But for those who like to take things up a notch, the Skypoint Skyclimb is the ultimate way to admire the gorgeous seaside destination. It’s a guided tour that takes those brave enough outside the building to the Eagle’s Nest, the highest climbable point of any structure in the country.

The open-aired experience of looking out across the endless terrain from the 270m elevation makes appreciating the beauty and vastness of it all makes it so much more memorable. Oh, and for the daring, there’s also the opportunity to lean over the side of the damn thing!

Mid Range Adrenaline-Rushes.

8. Jet Ski Hire/Safari.

Who doesn’t love jet skiing? It’s a staple at any coastal destination and is one of the most commonly known ways to incorporate some thrills into your adventure.

You can rip around the water at high speeds and have an absolute blast doing so by yourself, or you can embark on a jet ski safari and get a guided tour to some beautiful spots that not many visitors know exist. It’s your pick.

9. Jetboating.

The Gold Coast is a beautiful city. There’s no questioning that. And a great way to see it is from the water. Plenty of river cruises showcase the spectacular skyline and million-dollar houses that line the Gold Coast Seaway, and while they are scenic, they aren’t exactly thrilling.

A fun way to combine a river cruise with something that’ll set the adrenal glands on fire is to head out on a boat with a powerful engine and agile as hell. In other words, a jet boat.

These nippy little things skip across the water, wake surfing and drifting at breakneck speed. They are tonnes of fun. But that’s not even the best part about them.

Bringing the exhilaration factor up to 11 is their iconic, sudden, high-speed 360-degree spins that make it so immensely thrilling. It’s such a wildly enjoyable ride that seamlessly combines the city and nature elements of the Gold Coast with its tagline, Famous For Fun, that it’s one of the ultimate ways to experience the beautiful seaside destination.

10. Flyboarding.

Adding to the robust list of Gold Coast adrenaline adventures is Flyboarding. Flyboarding is a relatively new sport on the scene and involves getting strapped onto a board similar to a snowboard and wakeboard, only you’re not skimming across snow or water, you’re using it as a propulsion device so you can fly!

How this works is through the use of a pipe attached to a revving jetski which connects to the board and forces a torrent of water out of the base of it. It’s an awesome contraption that requires a bit of practice to nail down the basics, but fast learners will be able to progress from just floating in the water like a dolphin to looking like the Greek God, Posideon appearing out of the water. Even faster learners can go even higher and start incorporating some fun moves too.

It’s the closest one can get to unassisted flying and it’s one of the most enjoyable and memorable things I’ve done, even though I wasn’t able to get too high.

Me barely managing to "fly" out of the water with an exhilarating Flyboarding experience
Flyboarding is fun but challenging. I wasn’t able to get too high but it was tons of fun!

11. Tree Top Challenge.

Adding to the long list of adventurous things to do on the Gold Coast is the Tree Top Challenge.

Located within Thunderbird Park in the picturesque mountaintop township of Mt Tamborine, the Tree Top Challenge is Australia’s largest high ropes adventure course and features over 120 exciting elevated activities, including 10 wildly fun ziplines spanning across a 9-hectare forest.

Anyone over the age of 8 with a solid fitness level can tackle the physically challenging courses which range from easy to extreme and typically take between 3-4 hours to complete and test out their skill, agility, bravery and dexterity.

It’s a high-stakes, high-thrill, hands-on experience that is not only a great activity but a fantastic way to incorporate some exercise into it too.

Best Extreme Experiences.

12. The Slingshot.

Not all visitors to the Gold Coast are here for a long time. Sometimes people just come for a day or a weekend. And especially for those kinds of trips, it’s hard to incorporate some high-end heart-pounding action into your itinerary, especially if you’re looking to do it without venturing too far out of the way. But the city that’s dubbed itself Famous For Fun has just the thing for those sightseers: The SlingShot.

The Sling Shot is located right in the bustling heart of the city in Surfers Paradise and is not far east of Cavill Mall along the same road. This high-intensity ride launches thrill-seekers straight up into the air at the insane velocity of 180 km an hour propelling them to an altitude of 90-plus metres.

It’s akin to hitting the eject button out of a plummeting aeroplane, only after you’re slingshotted into the atmosphere, you do a few bungees bounces where you can then enjoy beautiful views of the Gold Coast as the pod you’re in rotates and you’re brought back down to earth.

It’s a great way to see the city and get a heart-pounding theme park ride experience without the theme park.

👉 You can also experience the Slingshot at night!

13. V8 Supercar Hot Laps.

If you’re someone who prefers cars over stunts, ripping around in a high-powered V8 supercar will be more up your alley. There are a few options for what you can do. It is kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure sort of thing. The typical packages are hot laps, instructor-guided laps or an intoxicating combination of both.

Hot laps are where you sit as a passenger beside a highly trained professional driver and get a heart-stopping, adrenaline-packed, first-hand taste of what it’s like to barrel around a dirt track at breakneck speed. Instructor-guided laps are where the roles are reversed and you sit in the driver’s seat while the expert teaches you how to push aside your fears and reservations and race like a pro!

And for the best of both worlds, there’s the combined experience. You’ll get the thrill and personal satisfaction of seeing how far you can push your limits, and then be able to compare it to the exhilarating hot lap that pro drivers experience.

As for the number of laps, that depends on your budget, but whether you do a few or a lot, it’s a high-octane experience through and through.

14. Skydiving.

Whenever anyone’s looking for a heart-stopping adrenaline experience anywhere in the world, tandem skydiving is what pops up at the top of the list time and time and again.

And there’s a reason for that. It takes some serious bravado to willingly jump out of a perfectly good plane with nothing but a parachute strapped to your back.

Until that thing is released it’s an insane almost 200km/h free fall. That’s the terminal velocity of gravity right there and it’s faster than most rollercoasters around the world, including all of the ones on the Gold Coast.

And the scenery is significantly better. Spectacular aerial views anyone? It’s an intimidating thing to do with a high-risk factor but it’s such an epic experience, it’ll leave you on an adrenaline high long after it’s over.

Everyone should try at least once in their lifetime and what better place to do it than over the skyscrapers, the beach, the ocean, the rivers and the mountains of the beautiful Gold Coast? Famous For Fun? You bet.

Me tandem skydiving in what is still one of my favourite adrenaline experiences.

15. Aerobatic Flight.

For the ultimate Gold Coast adrenaline adventure, you can’t go past an aerobatic flight in a Yak-52. A ride in this nimble Russian warbird is the epitome of extreme thrill-seeking as it effortlessly goes from one adrenaline-pumping manoeuvre to the next.

Experience exhilaratingly high levels of G-force and zero gravity as the skilled pilot seamlessly transitions between barrel rolls, Cuban 8s, loop de loops and more like you’re fighting in a warzone and dodging enemy fire!

Best of all, the flight is tailor-made for you! If it’s an endless stream of high-intensity puke-inducing aerobatic maneuvers you desire, that is what you will receive. Or if that’s too intense, you can ask the pilot to go a little easier because all those moves can do a number on your stomach. Regurgitated lunch, anyone? Luckily, there’s a barf bag on the board!

And then there’s the view. All of this is done overlooking the magnificent Gold Coast, and with the skyscrapers, rivers, ocean and distant mountains of the hinterland all in view, seeing the spectacular coastal destination truly doesn’t get better than that!

Me during my Yak-52 Aerobatic Flight, which has not only been my favourite Gold Coast Adrenaline adventure, but the number one thing I've done period.
This is one of my favourite experiences ever. *Taken by the tour operator.
