LOOKING FOR AN IN-DEPTH REVIEW OF IBIS BUDGET SYDNEY EAST?

Sydney is a stunning, vibrant world-class city known for its incredible architecture and breathtaking harbour. As the cultural gateway to Australia and the signature destination of the vast country, it’s also an expensive place to vacation.

Luckily, there remain some hotels, such as Ibis Budget Sydney East, that cater to the more budget-friendly traveller so they can also discover this beautiful city without breaking the bank.

Disclosure: This review is a non-sponsored post based on my stay at Ibis Budget Sydney East in February 2022. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Location.

Ibis Budget Sydney East resides in a reasonably good location.

Wedged between the suburbs of Kings Cross and Darlinghurst, the hotel isn’t in the most flashy area, but it is ideally situated not too far away from the tourist part of the city.

The Sydney Opera House will take you a little over half an hour to walk to, but for those who’d rather take public transport, the William Street Before Dowling Street bus stop is just across the road, while the Kings Cross train station is a couple of minutes stroll around the corner. Triple Room – Room 504.

Rating: 7 out of 10.

The Ibis Budget Sydney East’s Triple Room has a notably dark colour scheme that somewhat overtakes the room’s lighter aspects, making the space feel dated.

The chipboard accents gave off an unfinished look. Combined with the uncomplimentary hanging rack, they highlighted the low-end feel of the room.

While the room’s design doesn’t have modern stylings, it was clean and tidily presented, if not devoid of scuffs and a few tiny stains on the furniture.

It is also quite spacious. The only area where it was cramped was the end and on the other side of the bed, which was very close to the window to accommodate the sofa, itself a lovely addition.

The room also came equipped with many of the furnishings you’d expect from any accommodation, including a TV, minibar, table, hairdryer, kettle, iron and ironing board.

Bathroom.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

The bathroom is a decent size for a budget room, but the incandescent lighting continued the dated feel by giving it a 70s motel vibe.

That aside, it was adequately spacious, and only the sink area was slightly cramped.

But the open shower wasn’t the best because water splashed everywhere. It wasn’t ideal, but there wasn’t enough space for a door either.

View.

Rating: 9 out of 10.

When booking budget accommodation such as the Ibis Budget Sydney East, good views are usually not something to expect. Maybe the sides of some buildings or looking down at a road or a park. And that’d be the extent of it.

But because my boyfriend is an ALL – Accor Live Limitless Member, our room was upgraded to a Harbour View. Because of that, the views included the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

It was unexpected as well because the hotel isn’t that tall. But it was pretty nice and the best thing about the room. The best thing about the room was what was out the window.

Facilities & Public Areas.

Reception & Hallways.

Rating: 8 out of 10.

The reception had a crisp, modern design but had vending machines which were noticeably empty. The elevator, however, had a similar dark, years-gone-by vibe to the rooms

Restaurant.

Rating: 8 out of 10.

The in-house restaurant shared the same contemporary stylings as the reception and gave off a humble and welcoming vibe.

They serve traditional continental breakfast.

Additional Facilities.

24/7 Secure & Accessible parking. *Extra Cost
Free Wi-Fi
Facilities for Disabled Guests

Ibis Budget Sydney East’s Staff.

Rating: 10 out of 10.

There wasn’t a lot of staff interaction at the Ibis, but of the few there were, they were polite and checking in and out happened promptly.

Things To Do Near Ibis Budget Sydney.

Attractions.

Rating: 7 out of 10.

Ibis Budget Sydney East has a few tourist attractions within a relatively short distance. Places such as the Hyde Park Barracks Museum and Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney are approximately 1.2km and 1.5kms one-way, respectively.

The Sydney Opera House is just a bit further away from the latter, but it’s much quicker and more convenient to catch the train to get to all three of those destinations.

Public Transport & Accessibility To Other Attractions.

Rating: 8 out of 10.

Ibis Budget East Sydney has good access to public transport. The William Street Before Dowling Street Bus Stop is just 45m down the road, while the Kings Cross Train Station is 350m around the corner.

From there, you can easily access many of Sydney’s biggest attractions, such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Luna Park and Bondi Beach.

Overall Impressions.

Rating: 7 out of 10.

While the Ibis Budget Sydney East isn’t the fanciest or most modern hotel out there, it was adequate in the ways that counted. It was clean, quiet and had ample space.

Its proximity to the city and the train station made accessing the heart of Sydney a breeze. If we were looking to travel to this beautiful city again and wanted a budget-friendly, no-frills place to snooze in after a day in Sydney, the Ibis is a good choice.

But if we wanted to spend more time at a hotel than sleeping and showering such as for a romantic weekend, the Ibis isn’t really suited for that kind of stay, so in that situation, it wouldn’t be on our “stay again” radar.

The hotel isn't stylish but it's a good affordable option in an expensive city.

Value For Money.

Rating: 8 out of 10.

Sydney is an expensive place to take a vacation. Ibis Budget Sydney East provides an inexpensive alternative to many of the hotels across the city.

While it feels noticeably dated, it has enough of the creature comforts to make it worth the price in such a high-end place. It’s clean, spacious, quiet and close to public transport.

With all that combined, it’s good value for money and is even more so if you are an ALL – Accor Live Limitless member as one of your rewards is discounted stays.

Who Would Ibis Budget Sydney Appeal To.

The Ibis Budget Hotel will appeal to solo travellers, couples, family units and friends looking for an affordable place to stay without all the bells and whistles.

It’s for people who want to keep their costs down and aren’t concerned with having a high-end place but also not a backpacker place or a hostel. Just somewhere comfortable to rest their heads after a day of exploring.

Conclusion: Ibis Budget Sydney East Review.

The Ibis Budget Sydney East isn’t going to win any home decor style-of-the-year awards, but if all you’re looking for is somewhere affordable and comfortable, it’s an ideal choice.

And while it’s further back from the main tourist centre of Sydney, it’s conveniently located close enough that you could walk to it or catch the train from right around the corner, making it a good selection for a budget stay not too far away from the city.
