LOOKING FOR AN IN-DEPTH REVIEW OF NOVOTEL SYDNEY DARLING SQUARE?

The beautiful cosmopolitan city of Sydney has much appeal. Revered worldwide, this gateway to Australia is home to such renowned landmarks as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge which is only a tiny taste of what this vibrant New South Wales capital offers. It’s undoubtedly an alluring destination.

But with so many lodging options available, what’s a great place to stay? If looking for somewhere classy and sophisticated, Novotel Sydney Darling Square offers incredible luxury accommodation in an accessible location, making it an ideal place to rest after a day exploring Sydney.

Why Novotel Sydney Darling Square?

As an Accor Plus Member, my significant other receives a free night’s stay in a four or five-star hotel, depending on the country. For Australia, it’s the former, and he chose Novotel Sydney Darling Square due to its proximity to the light rail system to access the heart of Sydney and the abundance of restaurants nearby.

Deluxe King Room. – 710.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10.

Stepping into the Deluxe King Room, there was an inviting warmth. The soft yellow lights illuminated the white walls, wooden furniture, complementary accents and trims, giving the room a lovely homely feel. It was atmospheric and romantic, but it never felt dark.

Everything was thoughtfully designed and arranged because while it wasn’t hugely spacious, it never felt cramped either. It all felt perfect and considered. Even the wardrobe and drawers had compartments to compliment the luxurious, high-end vibe the room gave off. It’s an artfully created space that makes you never want to leave.

Super Classy!

Bathroom.

Rating: 10 out of 10.

As gorgeous as the room was, the bathroom is in a class of its own. The level of sophistication in there is second to none. Its crisp, clean lines and minimalistic look in a large, white space make it feel expensive.

The rain shower, feature wall and Hollywood mirror elevate that more so, while the wooden countertop around the sink brings the warmth of the bedroom into the bathroom linking the two spaces and making you feel like you’ve levelled up in life. A gorgeous, gorgeous room.

View.

Rating: 7 out of 10.

Room 710 peers toward Reflection Park and Hello Kitty Town. The latter is an unusual building surrounded by a “wooden tornado”. A giant inflatable Hello Kitty was also visible. It’s a lovely view, and a big step up from looking at a parking lot or back alley, but the dirty window also wasn’t helping. It didn’t open so you could enjoy it clearly either, which was a bit disappointing.

Novotel Sydney’s Location.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10.

The location of Novotel Sydney Darling Square is excellent. It’s a short stroll to Darling Harbour. From here, you can hop aboard a scenic ferry ride across Port Jackson and cruise under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and alongside the unforgettable sails of the Sydney Opera House to your next destination.

If where you’re heading is not near a harbour port or you want to traverse and see the city a different way, the Exhibition Centre Light Rail/Tram Stop is an even shorter walk away. The tourist attractions, the Powerhouse Museum and the Chinese Garden of Friendship are also in the vicinity, and if you’re going to see an event at the ICC Sydney and the Australian National Maritime Museum, you can’t get a hotel any more convenient.

Public Areas.

Reception.

Rating: 10 out of 10.

The moment you walk into the reception of Novotel Sydney Darling Square, it’s all class and sophistication. It looks like a place celebrities frequent. It’s breathtakingly beautiful, airy and clean with crisp modernity. Gorgeous and the hallways and lifts also continued the high-end feel.

Indoor Heated Lap Pool. – 6am-10pm

Rating: 8 out of 10.

Unlike most hotels, Novotel Sydney Darling Square doesn’t have an outdoor recreational pool. It has a small indoor swimming facility designed for exercise rather than play. You can still go to frolic, but it’s a bit more confining, and it’s all one depth, unfortunately, but it is temperature regulated. So on cold or rainy days, it’s a fun place to escape to while it’s miserable outside. There’s also a beautiful view outside that you can enjoy while lapping it up in the pool.

Pier Street Grill – Restaurant.

Rating: 9 out of 10.

On the side, there was the Pier Street Grill, the hotel’s in-house restaurant, which continued the warm and inviting ultra-modern design the reception had. Serving up a continental breakfast, which is discounted for Accor Plus Members depending on how many guests are staying with you, there was a solid range of the typical English and American offerings.

But they lacked labels for people with dietary requirements, so we had to ask which selections were suitable for me as a vegan. Thankfully, there were a few. There’s also the PS Wine bar next to it, but that is still under construction.

Who Would Novotel Sydney Darling Square Appeal To?

If looking for a gorgeous place to take your significant other for a romantic getaway, this stunning hotel is a great choice, thanks to its incredible interior design. It doesn’t offer the greatest of views due to its low-rise height. But the atmosphere inside will make you feel like they’re living the high life, and the rooms are so incredible, it’ll be hard to leave.

It’ll also appeal to people who want to explore Sydney without a car because of its convenient location near tourist attractions, restaurants and public transport. It’s easy to get to tourist hotspots, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Sydney Opera House

Would We Stay Here Again?

Rating: 9 out of 10.

Absolutely. Novotel Sydney Darling Square was breathtaking. It’s incredibly classy and sophisticated, but it never felt snobby or unwelcoming. It’s beautiful, warm and inviting, and the room was gorgeous. It’s the best place I’ve ever stayed. So much so that I could see myself living there, and the elegance of that bathroom was to die for. The dirty window and lack of view were a little bit of a downer, and the size and singular depth of the pool was too. But it didn’t detract too much from this being an excellent place to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic hotel.

Conclusion.

While it’s set back a bit from the hectic heart of the city, the Novotel Sydney Darling Square is not a hotel to write off. Its breathtaking, contemporary design and convenient location behind the beautiful harbourside suburb of Darling Harbour make it a worthy place to complement your Sydney adventure.
