📍Mercure Hanoi La Gare: An Honest Review. (2024.)

WONDERING WHETHER STAYING AT MERCURE HANOI LA GARE IS WORTH IT?

Hanoi, in Vietnam’s north, is the country’s vibrant capital. Compared to every other place we visited during our one-month trip throughout the Southeast Asian nation, this one evokes a vastly different feel where its Communist political values are much more present than anywhere else we went. It was a stark contrast to everything else we experienced, but with the beauty and charm of Old Quarter and the starting point for many tours, this unique Vietnamese City is a must-visit.

For those looking for somewhere to stay with 4-star luxury while exploring its many sights, the Mercure Hanoi La Gare is a solid choice, particularly for brief visitors to the capital. Here is my detailed review of what we liked and disliked about our one-night stay.

Mercure Hanoi La Gare: Review Overview.

In this comprehensive and detailed review of our stay at Mercure Hanoi La Gare, I delve deep into everything positive about our experience here and address a few areas that required improvement, touching on factors such as the room presentation and ambience, facilities, dining options, location, the type of people this hotel is suitable for and whether we would stay here again.

Is Mercure Hanoi La Gare Worth Visiting?

Yes and no. Mercure Hanoi La Gare has lovely well-appointed rooms that are modern, clean, comfy and generously spacious with elegant bathrooms that include a dual-use rain shower and full-sized bathtub, providing a luxurious place to return to after a day exploring the sights.

Its location is another positive. For those who don’t want to stay in the chaotic hustle and bustle of Old Quarter, the hotel lies just outside of it, but also within reasonably close proximity to several of the city’s other top attractions, such as the Vietnam Military History Museum, Vietnam National Museum Of History, and Hoa Lo Prison along with the train station being nearby.

However, while it does have these things going for it, there are some downsides to it. While many other accommodation options facilitate a pool, especially those with the same star rating, this one does not. That is a notable downside of the hotel, considering Vietnam is infamous for its hot and humid climate, and having a swimming pool to return to is a fantastic respite after sweating relentlessly outside.

Because of that, I think Mercure Hanoi La Gare is best suited for travellers planning a short trip to the capital who are more intent on exploration than on spending much downtime at the hotel.

Overall Impressions.

Rating: 8 out of 10.

Our overall impression of Mercure Hanoi La Gare was mostly positive. The spacious and modern rooms provided a welcoming, comfortable and spacious place to come back to after a long day of travelling. Despite lacking certain facilities, such as a pool which is always a great reprieve from the heat and humidity, the cleanliness and quietness of the accommodations meant that it was adequate sufficient for our one-night stay.

We also liked its location and that while it wasn’t in the heart of Old Quarter, it was still within close distance to it and many of the attractions both there outside of that tourist hotspot, so I wouldn’t recommend it for people staying for more than a couple of days, I think it’s a lovely hotel for those only visiting the capital for a short period and who favour going longer than staying inside.
