WONDERING WHETHER VISITING MOVENPICK RESORT WAVERLY PHU QUOC IS WORTH IT? HERE IS MY HONEST REVIEW.

Phu Quoc is a stunning tropical paradise in the breathtaking Gulf Of Thailand. Although it resides closer to Cambodia, it is actually Vietnam’s largest island and is fast becoming one of the country’s newest traveller hotspots thanks to the many tourist-orientated attractions that are quickly popping up all over it along with its pre-existing natural beauty and cultural landmarks.

Capitalizing on its evolving status as Vietnam’s next must-visit destination, Phu Quoc has many fantastic accommodation options for people looking to explore this gorgeous place. And if it’s high-end, all-inclusive remote seaside luxury you’re looking for Movenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc is a phenomenal choice. My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights during our month-long holiday through Vietnam and regard this as the best place we stayed during our time on Phu Quoc and one of our favourite accommodation choices throughout the entire trip. Here’s our honest review of why we regard it so highly.

Please note: Movenpick Resort Waverly and Movenpick Villas & Residences are two different places that reside side by side.

Cons.

  • The view from our first-floor room wasn’t that great. However, I had a look at the higher levels, and the views were much better up there, and overlooking the ocean and the neighbouring resort, Movenpick Villas & Residences Phu Quoc.

Pool & Private Beach.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10.

✔️ Pros.

  • Large swimming pool with in-water deck chairs and views overlooking the private beach and ocean.
  • Also has a water volleyball area & a pool-accessible bar.
  • Smaller pool for the kiddies.
  • The private palm-tree-lined beach was clean and had benches.

Cons.

  • Small tiles of the pool felt dated and some were missing.
  • A large grate on the bottom wasn’t secured and my boyfriend stepped into the hole.
  • The ocean on the days we stayed were too choppy for swimming.
  • No outdoor general use hot tub and sauna. A hot tub and sauna were at the spa, but only available for people booking services there.

The Islander – Restaurant.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

✔️ Pros.

  • A large buffet breakfast with a wide variety of options is included for all guests.
  • Vegetarian station.
  • Dietary advisory symbols are listed next to most foods.
  • The restaurant overlooks the pool and beach.
  • Continues the high-end warm, welcoming and spacious feel of the reception.
  • A la carte dinner options have good, satisfying-sized portions. My boyfriend thought that because it was a luxury place, the meals would be small, so he ordered a few dishes and was overwhelmed by how much they brought out!

Cons.

  • Staff were a bit confused about vegan food, but went out of their way to cater for me, which I was very grateful for.

Spa.

Rating: 9 out of 10.

✔️ Pros.

  • Full body massage was the best one my boyfriend had in Vietnam.
  • People who book get access to the hot tub, sauna and steam room.
  • Even though my partner was the only one getting a massage, they allowed both of us to use the other facilities for a day.

Cons.

  • Massages are expensive. A one-hour full-body massage costs 950,000 VND, which is equivalent to about $120 AUD.
  • Spa areas were divided into male and female areas, so I wasn’t able to enjoy them with my partner.

Staff.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10.

✔️ Pros.

  • The staff was excellent.
  • They were very polite, friendly, approachable and welcoming and went out of their way to assist the best they could.
  • They had the best English communication skills and were able to understand us well and vice versa.

Cons.

  • Found it a bit hard to understand my dietary requirements at breakfast, but were still very helpful, especially at dinner.

Location.

Rating: 7 out of 10.

✔️ Pros.

  • Beautiful location right next to the beach.
  • It’s fairly isolated and out of the way, which can be seen as both a positive and a negative.
  • One of the closest accommodation options to Vietnam’s biggest and in our opinion best theme park, Vinwonders. (14km, 20 minute drive)

Cons.

  • Quite far out of the way. It’s 14km to Duong Dong, the main town on Phu Quoc and takes about 20 minutes to reach. Most of the island’s best attractions are there or lie much further south of that.

Overall Impressions.

Rating: 9 out of 10.

Overall, Movenpick Resort Waverly Phu Quoc is an excellent high-end upscale resort and one of the best places we’ve had the pleasure to stay.

We loved the warm and welcoming atmosphere and how the design elements fused together seamlessly to become the epitome of the idyllic honeymoon resort, like something you’d see in a romantic Hollywood movie. It was unforgettably beautiful.

We also loved how spacious everything was and how well everything flowed together to create the perfect escape. Our room was gorgeous, and this resort made me fall in love with see-through bathrooms. I also loved the sculptured towel and flowers, which, while only a small detail, really fed into the enviable romanticism of this place.

Foodwise, it was very generous for traditional eaters. But for me, it was slightly more challenging. However, the staff were so friendly and accommodating, their helpfulness only added to the experience.

My boyfriend loved how the restaurant overlooked the swimming pool, which looked over the ocean, but it was sad that the weather wasn’t good for us to swim at the private beach, which was no fault of the hotel.

He found getting a 60-minute full body massage at the spa pricey, but also regards it as one of his best massage experiences. Plus, both of us were permitted to use the other facilities, such as the hot tub, sauna and steam, which seemed odd as I didn’t purchase any services, but I sure as hell enjoyed it, even though they had the areas separated into males and females area.

Movenpick Phu Quoc: FAQs.

What Is The Movenpick Phu Quoc Chocolate Hour?

Movenpick’s Chocolate Hour is where chefs concoct a variety of sumptuous chocolate desserts for guests to sink their teeth into. As the name suggests, it only happens for an hour. But the best thing about it is that is on every day at the Waverly Lounge and is FREE! Self-control is advised.

Does Movenpick Phu Quoc Have An Airport Shuttle?

Yes. Movenpick Phu Quoc provides airport shuttle services to and from the International Airport. However, they don’t come that frequently. An excellent alternative is to hire a Grab car through the Grab app.

They also offer shuttle bus services to and from the resort to Duong Down between 6 pm and 9 pm These services cost 40,000VND per guest each way.

Is Phu Quoc Worth Visiting?

Phu Quoc is well worth visiting. The island, Vietnam’s largest is quickly becoming one of the country’s best new destinations for travellers. Some of its most notable attractions include Vinwonders Phu Quoc, the nation’s biggest theme park and Sunworld Hon Thom, an incredible waterpark that requires riding the world’s longest cable car to reach. My partner loves theme parks and we both consider these two to have the best rides and slides of the eight we visited.

It is also home to many excellent tours and activities, such as snorkelling around the islands of the An Thoi Archipelago, one of the best sites to do so in the country.

How To Get To Phu Quoc Island?

Flying is the simplest way to get to Phu Quoc. A one-hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City will take you to the beautiful island, but there are also flights departing Hanoi and Da Nang that also service the island.

The main carriers are Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo and Vietjet. I strongly advise not going with Vietjet. Although it is cheaper, we experienced numerous issues with this airline. We booked four internal flights with them. One was cancelled and reorganized, requiring us to take two flights to get to our destination during one leg. And out of the five we ended up taking, four of them were significantly delayed, causing us to miss out on numerous activities.
